Cooperative Updates

New South is proud to partner with the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention (ArCOP) to bring Double Up Food Bucks our CSA shareholders in 2019. Double Up Food Bucks is an incentive program the matches the value of SNAP benefits when spent on locally grown fresh fruits and veggies. The Fair Food Network calls the program as a “win/win/win”: “Low-income families bring home more healthy food, area farmers gain new customers and make more money, and more food dollars stay in the local economy. Each has a positive ripple effect of benefits.” So how do you use SNAP and Double Up to sign up for the CSA? Review our SNAP Policy Reserve your weekly share of fresh, local produce Select SNAP (Food Stamps) and Double Up Bucks as your payment method Connect with our CSA staff to set up your weekly payment plan How do I pay for the CSA with SNAP? Friends & Fellow Local Food Advocates – New South Produce Cooperative is, has been, and will always be, a farmer-focused enterprise. We exist to improve the lives of small family farmers by growing the local food system. This means we collaborate with folks like you to move food to bellies that wouldn't normally have access to fresh, local food. In living this mission, we have recently opened our Cooperative to all small-scale agriculturalists in Arkansas and the larger Mid-South region, regardless of their certification. This means we will begin offering products to you that are grown using conventional methods. We understand that a major reason many of you do business with us is our commitment to sustainability as well as our local focus. We will continue to be a force for sustainability in agriculture and our local food system—our commitment here is unwavering. We will hold to this commitment as we move to become a resource for...

Fall is a fabulous time to be a member of the CSA: the squashes, apples, late-season tomatoes, peppers and other fall delights are truly a bounty to behold One of the best parts of a CSA is the chance to "eat through the seasons" — and who would want to miss the richest part of the year, autumn harvest!? With your weekly box, you're: Supporting living-wage farmer livelihoods Bringing adventurous new items to your kitchen Eating like the foodie chefs at The Root Cafe, WunderHaus and The Farmer's Table -- some of the best farm-to-table restaurants in Arkansas—who source their veggies from us Fall 2018 CSA dates are September 27-November...

You may have noticed things look a bit different. That’s because Foodshed Farms is now New South Produce Cooperative. Our products and farmers haven’t changed - all of our products are still Certified Organic or Certified Naturally Grown, and harvested right here in Arkansas. So why the change? Our business has grown! We began in 2014 with a handful of farms and a small CSA. But now in 2016 we’ve grown to nearly two dozen Arkansas farms, with over 450 CSA members across the state and dozens of restaurants, grocers, and community organizations carrying our products every week. Our new brand reflects this growth, and coincides with our official transition to a farmer-owned cooperative earlier this year. New South Cooperative represents our dedication to environmental stewardship through organic agriculture and our commitment to the growth of small family farms. We’re working towards a new type of agriculture that promotes rural livelihoods and protects the...
